"description": "We call on you to make a public pledge that you will support good, permanent jobs that give workers a real shot at the middle class; ensure your suppliers obey the law; and guarantee that workers have the right to join together on the job for a higher pay and a safe, respectful working environment. The U.S. economy doesn’t just need jobs—it needs good jobs that allow working people to raise a family, save for the future, and create even better opportunities for their children. Since 2009, foreign and domestic automakers have invested $38 billion and added over 350,000 jobs in the U.S. Unfortunately, these are not the same good automotive jobs that helped build America. Three out of four autoworkers are now employed by parts suppliers, not the brand-name automakers. Many of these workers make less than $10 per hour. Many more must work 60 or 70 hours a week just to make ends meet. New workers often start in “temporary” jobs, which leave them in limbo for months (or even years) at an even lower wage than others in the plant. Across the country, low-wage workers have been standing up and demanding better. Now, autoworkers are joining the movement to restore real opportunity for working families. Companies such as yours have the power to transform automotive jobs throughout the supply chain by insisting your suppliers compete on quality and efficiency, not on how little they can pay workers. We hope you accept this challenge to be a leader in creating good jobs and strong communities that make all of us proud.",
