"description": "100% affordable housing. We need more of that. Mayor Bass’ Executive Directive 1 (ED1) has been an extraordinarily successful tool to build more affordable housing much more quickly than was previously possible. There are affordable homes under construction now that are only possible because of ED1. However, since its inception, it has been watered down again and again. We call on Mayor Bass and Los Angeles leaders to: Open up single-family-only neighborhoods to affordable homes! These neighborhoods are full of opportunity, and allowing them to opt-out of new homes worsens inequality. Remove the new limitations on incentives and waivers, and expand streamlining reforms to include mixed income proposals What is ED1? LA has a chance to fast-track thousands of affordable homes in the city thanks to the Mayor’s Executive Directive 1 (ED1) which requires streamlining the approval of 100% affordable housing projects. 100% affordable housing projects which previously would have taken 8 months to be fully processed are completing their paperwork in less than 2 months on average. ED1 has made many more projects feasible, and has increased the number of homes possible in many proposed affordable homes! We have a duty to house our most vulnerable community members and provide all Angelenos, safe, stable and affordable homes. Housing, especially affordable housing, already faces so many challenges through the existing review process where great projects are often stymied by people who are comfortably housed while our unhoused neighbors and people experiencing housing insecurity continue to be ignored in the process. We need to expedite the construction of affordable housing so more people can live in a stable, affordable home in LA.",
