	"description": "Students, parents, educators, and our community in the Soquel Union Elementary School District can’t wait for the SUESD board to address high staff turnover rates, and the resulting loss of decades worth of high quality teaching experience. SUESD educator salaries and benefits rank last compared to other Santa Cruz County school districts and rank last in similarly funded and sized elementary school districts in California. Despite existing in one of the most expensive places in the country, SUESD salaries and benefits rank significantly below the California statewide average for educators. 47% of educators in our district have reported that they are actively seeking employment elsewhere or plan to do so by the end of the school year. SUESD is systematically losing its educators. The failure to retain educators directly leads to lower quality learning environments, loss of longstanding programs, and unstable school communities. This is the result of a district that cannot attract and retain the educators our students need. Soquel educators are fighting for the stable schools our students deserve. We know that our students deserve to learn in classrooms filled with qualified, committed educators and health and wellness professionals who can stay year after year. We are negotiating a contract with the district and proposing solutions we believe are necessary in order to ensure a better future for our students, educators, parents, and community.
