On Sunday, Senator Johnson went on national television to say that “there’s no way” the Senate should be voting for this bill this week, and I completely agree with him. He’s right: both he and all of his constituents in Wisconsin, like me, need more time to properly evaluate the bill. That’s especially true because at least one big healthcare provider in our state has warned that if this bill passes, it would significantly increase the amount of care it’s obligated to give for free, which would drive up costs for everyone in Wisconsin. Our democracy was built on the principle that it’s better not to pass a good law than to have to undo the harm caused by a bad law. That’s exactly what I’m asking Senator Johnson to do.
