"description": "Right now, Big Tech companies are requesting jaw-dropping amounts of electricity in Virginia. Meeting this demand by building new gas plants – or keeping old, dirty coal plants online – puts Virginia’s clean energy transition, our climate, and health at risk. These corporations, which get huge tax breaks from the state, and are raking in billions in profits, should be required to meet their energy needs with clean energy and pay their fair share. But in reality, they are driving up pollution and the utility bills for working families. State lawmakers must hold Big Tech accountable. Sign the petition today: no Big Tech tax breaks for polluters! We are urging legislators to support three bills that are critical steps toward holding Big Tech accountable and protecting Virginia’s clean energy future: HB 155: Requires any high-load facility (a facility whose electric demand exceeds 25 megawatts) to obtain a certificate of operation from the State Corporation Commission (SCC). HB 897: Requires a data center operator in order to be eligible for tax exemptions, to not use co-located generating facilities that emit carbon dioxide. HB 658: Directs the State Corporation Commission to conduct proceedings to review cost allocation among different customer classifications for certain electric utilities.",
