"description": "Three Walmart stores in Virginia are locking up only African American hair products. Other hair products have no additional security. What kind of message does this send to Walmart’s workforce, 46% of whom is African American? What kind of message does this send to the surrounding communities, which are roughly 40% African American? Walmart needs to know that this practice is discriminatory and should stop. Crime is indeed a problem at Walmart, but it’s one that the company needs to address with meaningful changes to security and staffing – not by locking up products in a discriminatory fashion. As Suffolk City Council Member Curtis Milteer, Sr., told us: “Walmart has the right to protect their merchandise, but if there is discrimination, it should be corrected.” We will deliver our petition to managers at these three stores, and give them the message that discrimination is not the answer. Thank you for all you do for Walmart workers and the community, Randy Parraz",
