"description": "Last summer, ice cream company Ben & Jerry’s announced its decision to end business with settlements in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian West Bank to align better with the company’s social values. Then last June, Unilever, the corporate owner of Ben & Jerry's, succumbed to pressure from the Israeli government, announcing that it sold its Ben & Jerry’s business interests in Israel to an Israeli licensee. This licensee will continue to locally produce Ben & Jerry’s ice cream products under the brand’s Hebrew and Arabic names and distribute them on stolen Palestinian land. But Ben & Jerry's is fighting this overreach by Unilever and has filed a lawsuit in federal court to block the license sale that violates the company's commitment to social justice. Unilever is causing irreparable harm to the Ben and Jerry's social justice brand through this calculated move. Unilever's decision to bypass Ben and Jerry's control over its own brand is so destructive to the business reputation, it cannot be undone later.
