Before she retires, she has one more request for people of faith, just over a week before Election Day: &quot;So today, I am asking you again to have mercy. Just as importantly, I am asking for your courage to love your neighbor, to respect the dignity of every human being, and now, to vote.&quot; Her message appears in a new video ad from our friends at Interfaith Alliance and Protect Democracy United, which do important work in communities at high risk of election interference. It&#x27;s one more act of courage in a long ministry of mercy. In January 2025, she stood in the pulpit of Washington National Cathedral and said to Donald Trump: &quot;In the name of our God I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared.&quot; Trump called her a &quot;so-called Bishop&quot; and demanded an apology. She didn&#x27;t give one. Since then, we have watched masked agents take our neighbors from their homes, their jobs, and their cars. We have watched clergy arrested and shot with pepper balls for praying outside ICE facilities. This administration has detained 8,755 children, including 562 babies and toddlers. Bishop Budde helped begin the faithful resistance. Now it&#x27;s our turn to carry it forward. As Christians walking the way of Jesus, we believe voting is an act of faith.
