"description": "FCC USAS Local 559 alongside students and workers across the CSU demand justice for the CSU’s laid off workers by calling on you to rescind these layoffs. Chancellor Castro claims to care about workers and students and yet students are facing austerity and workers are being tossed away, is this the tradition Joseph Castro is following, ignoring the people who keep CSU running? To make matters worse, these workers are being laid off during a pandemic amidst an unemployment crisis. Your workers deserve the decency of being treated with the same respect and loyalty that they have given the CSU. The CSU has counted on them to keep their campuses thriving and now it is time for them to be able count on the CSU. The CSU has the funds to rescind the layoffs with the multiple rounds of stimulus funds and the $1.5 billion surplus it had going into this crisis. The Governor also proposed a 3% base funding increase and $175 million for deferred maintenance for CSU, showing that the funding situation is likely to continue to improve into next fiscal year. CSU has billions of dollars in deferred maintenance projects and other work needing to be done to keep the campus communities safe as it plans to return for in-person instruction in the Fall, now is not the time to have people laid off. We demand that CSU listen to its communities and do the right thing by rescinding the layoffs for its dedicated workers whose work makes your campuses work. Can you join me and take action?
