"description": "Dear VCU Faculty Colleagues, The climate crisis is upon us. Individually we can reduce our carbon footprint, but it will take a collective effort and institutional changes to limit the worst effects of global warming and its deeply disproportionate effects on vulnerable, frontline communities and communities of color, and achieve a just transition to a healthy society for all. In late November, 2021, the VCU Senate undertook consideration of a Declaration of Climate Emergency, and many Senators suggested that in addition to holding a Senate vote on such a measure, it would be powerful to invite individual faculty members to sign a Climate Emergency Petition to show support. We urge you to take the following quick actions: 1. Review and Sign this Petition 2. Provide input to your Faculty Senate representatives and senators—either directly or via this Faculty Input Form —no later than January 11, 2022. Copies of the petition will be forwarded to President Rao and the VCU Administration periodically as it accrues signatures. The Faculty Senate will vote on the Climate Emergency Declaration at its meeting on January 25, 2022. Thank you!
