"description": "Trans Pride Film Fundraiser - Na’amod x TGirlsOnFilm In the spirit of collective liberation and in the lead-up to Trans Pride, Na’amod invites you to an evening screening of four powerful short documentaries about and by trans filmmakers, exploring trans lives across generations. From a vérité-style collaboration with gender outlaw and Jewish activist Leslie Feinberg (author of Stone Butch Blues), to the first documentary about trans people ever shown on Channel 4, directed by a trans filmmaker during Thatcherite Britain, through to urgent portraits of contemporary protest, these films trace 40 years of trans resistance, joy, and community. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, moderated by Jaye Hudson from TGirlsOnFilm. All proceeds from the evening will go to the Trans Legal Clinic, providing free and accessible legal support to trans people across the UK. Tickets are priced on a tiered basis. If you are an ally who has a little extra to give, please consider buying a solidarity ticket towards essential support for the trans community. Tiers: • Low wage and/or trans community: £10 • General: £15 • Solidarity: £20 Films (6:15pm - 7:30pm): Outlaw (1998): Leslie Feinberg, a Jewish self-identified "gender outlaw" and author of Stone Butch Blues speaks with passion and intelligence about zir experiences passing as a man in this film manifesto. Raw and confrontational, this film asks its audience to examine their assumptions about the "nature" of gender and calls for more sensitivity and awareness of the human rights and the dignity of transgender people. Sex Change - Shock! Horror! Probe! (1988): Thatcherite Britain, 1989 and transexuals are fighting back. Cabaret star Adele Anderson is facing a transphobic backlash after being cruelly outed by the press. Meanwhile in Manchester, Stephanie f Anne Lloyd is a successful trans business woman selling gender affirming products to a huge cross dressing clientele, with shoulder pads and gusto. The European Court faces Mark Rees as he argues his case to be legally seen as male, whilst Christine Goodwin hurtles round East London driving a bus. The first trans MP, Racheal Webb, attempts to reclaim the guardianship of her child since transitioning. In this landmark Channel 4 documentary, the first of its kind directed by an out trans person, Director Kristiene Clark fought back against the transphobic media, with an appeal to gender liberation. Transmissions Protest: Gender Inclusive Fashion, (2019): Directed by Sweatmother during the 2019 fashion week, Transmissions, a London based collective supporting and advocating the liberation of Trans, Intersex and gender non-conforming people, devised a protest runway walk outside Somerset House for the visibility of queer and trans bodies in protest to the exclusionary policies of fashion corporations. Discussion Q+A (7:30pm - 8:15pm): Alissa Lebow - director, Outlaw Kristiene Clarke - director, Sex Change - Shock! Horror! Probe! Jaye Hudson from TGirlsOnFilm - moderator With discussion around the production of the films, what progress has been made with trans documentary production and how film can be used as a tool for collective liberation. ————————- Na'amod UK is a movement of Jews in the UK seeking to end our community’s support of Israeli apartheid and occupation of Palestine. We are part of a broader struggle against racism, patriarchy, classism, ableism, homophobia and transphobia and are committed to the fight for collective liberation.",
