Support M/C Longevity Payments (S.1739/A.2680)

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

I am writing to urge your support of the M/C Longevity Payment/Performance Award bill so that Management and Confidential (M/C) employees, regardless of grade, will be on equal footing with the union-represented coworkers for this critical piece of compensation. Eligible CSEA and PEF-represented employees at ALL grade levels receive longevity payments, also known as Performance Awards, after a qualifying number of years on the job. By contrast, this payment is limited to M/C employees at or below Grade 17. That means almost 9,000 hard working M/C employees above Grade 17 do not receive ANY Longevity Payments even though their union-represented counterparts earn payments as high as $4,500 per year! The unequal treatment is a morale killer for M/C employees! Further, the absence of Longevity Payments for M/C positions is a disincentive for union-represented employees to accept promotions to an M/C position; accepting an M/C position involves not only earning less sick leave, less generous salary schedules, and fewer job protections, but also losing a longevity lump sum payment of between $1,500 and $4,500 per year. Finally, certain titles in State service may be both M/C-designated and union-represented; as such, a union-represented employee in the SAME title will receive the Longevity Payment while another employee in an M/C-designated position will receive NO Longevity Payment! This bill addresses that inequity. But only with your support will this travesty stop! Please join your fellow legislators in supporting this bill and equal treatment of ALL State employees!
