All New Yorkers, regardless of immigration status or how long they have been in our state, want to lead open lives, participate in their communities, provide for their family, and access health care without intimidation. ICE raids cruelly separate families, instill terror, and tear our communities apart. It is more critical than ever to stand up for our immigrant neighbors, and assert New York values over Trump and ICE's agenda. That's why we must pass the New York for All Act S.2235 (Gounardes) / A3506 (Reyes) This state bill prohibits state and local officers from enforcing federal immigration laws, funneling people into ICE custody, and sharing sensitive information with ICE. It prohibits ICE from entering non-public areas of state and local property without a judicial warrant. It also ensures that people in custody are given notice of their rights before being interviewed by ICE, and starts the process of limiting ICE access to state information databases. New Jersey, Washington, California, and Illinois have already passed similar laws to protect their immigrant communities. Now, New York must follow suit. This bill has gone unpassed in our state for too many years. It's time to put the pressure on our state lawmakers - protecting our immigrant neighbors cannot wait.
