I'm sure you’ve seen the ads – and like millions of Americans who take pride in our democracy, you know these ads are more about Trump’s ego than public service. One is literally a recycled Trump 2024 campaign ad with a "Paid for by the U.S. Government.” disclaimer slapped on top of it. Using taxpayer money for these ads is illegal – and right now, Common Cause is considering our legal and policy options to hold this administration accountable for it. In a healthy democracy, public funds exist to serve the public good – fixing roads, providing healthcare, and funding independent public media – not to finance the president’s latest ego trip. Trump has already burned through at least $2.5 million on these ads – and has allocated $20 million through the Department of Homeland Security to continue running them.
