Protect Voting Rights and STOP the SAVE Act!

Voting is a fundamental right, and eligible Americans should be able to participate in our democracy without unnecessary barriers. Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives once again passed the SAVE Act, legislation that would make it harder to vote -- especially for women! The SAVE Act would create significant new administrative hurdles for millions of eligible voters. For many people, complying with these requirements would not be as simple as showing a driver's license or state-issued ID. They may first need to locate or request certified copies of birth certificates or other citizenship documents, pay fees, coordinate with multiple government agencies, and wait for records to be processed before they can register or update their voter registration. These additional steps could fall especially hard on: Moms and caregivers balancing work, child care, and family responsibilities. Married women whose current legal name does not match the name on their birth certificate and who may need additional documentation to prove the connection. Seniors. Military families. Rural voters. People with disabilities. Lower-income Americans who may face greater difficulty obtaining required documents. These concerns are not hypothetical. A recent analysis by the Bipartisan Policy Center found that approximately 12% of registered voters—about 28.4 million voting-age citizens—do not have ready access to the forms of documentary proof most commonly required under proposals like the SAVE Act. The analysis also found that lower-income Americans and those with lower levels of educational attainment are less likely to have these documents readily available. This legislation would also add new documentation requirements for absentee voting by requiring voters to submit copies of eligible identification documents with absentee ballot applications and completed absentee ballots. For people who rely on voting by mail, these additional requirements could make participating in elections more difficult. Congressional leaders have discussed advancing these provisions through multiple legislative vehicles, including must-pass bills. Tell Senators: Reject the SAVE Act and any effort to include its provisions in other legislation. Every eligible American deserves the freedom to vote without unnecessary barriers. Add your name today and urge your members of Congress to protect access to the ballot for moms, families, caregivers, and all eligible voters. Tell Senators: protect our voting rights and REJECT the Save Act.
