If approved, Rosebank would produce more CO₂ than the 73 lowest-emitting countries do in a year. It would bust UK climate goals and is not compatible with a safe climate. But the problem doesn’t stop there. Rosebank could also send more than £200 million in profits to the Delek Group - one of Israel’s biggest oil companies. Rosebank’s co-owner, Ithaca Energy, is majority-owned by the Delek Group. Delek profits from illegal settlements in the West Bank and its subsidiary Delek Israel supplies fuel to the Israeli military, with military personnel able to refuel at hundreds of its petrol stations. It has been included by the UN in a list of businesses that are connected to human rights concerns in Palestine. Delek has already made $1 billion from North Sea oil and gas through Ithaca Energy. Legal experts are warning that approving Rosebank could put the UK at risk of breaching international humanitarian law. Ithaca now also wants to open Cambo, the oil field we successfully stopped in 2021. We cannot stand by as North Sea extraction becomes a revenue stream to a company with links to genocide.
