<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

This is a bi-weekly session on Tuesdays at 8 pm EST / 5 pm PST for organizers interested in practicing their Spanish language skills. Registration closes the Sunday before the practice session so we can ensure a good mix of participants and mentors. Our goal is to build enough proficiency and confidence in each participant to have the initial canvassing conversation at the door. If you don't feel confident enough to speak you can practice your listening skills! You can also look through our scripts and vocabulary lists if you want to prepare in advance. If you are unsure of what level you fall under, take a look at the explanations bellow: Beginner - Ranging from "I just downloaded Duolingo" to "I got to Spanish 2 in high school." You can read out loud from a script even if you don't know what any of the words mean. We will pair you up with another participant and you will both choose a script to read through out loud. If you're not confident enough to do this yet you can listen sit back and listen to others going through the script while you read along. Intermediate - You went a bit further in learning, maybe you took a couple of college courses or you had Spanish-speaking co-workers you communicated with on the job. You can read a script and get some general information from it even if there's a lot of words you don't understand. We will pair you up with another participant to read through the script. If there is time we may have you go through a mad libs exercise afterwards to test your understanding Advanced - Maybe you lived in a place with a lot of Spanish speakers, or you majored/minored in Spanish in college, or you're a heritage speaker. You can read through a script and get most of what they're saying even if you don't know a word here or there. We will pair you up with another participant or a mentor and have improvised conversations then debrief to see if you caught everything. Mentor - You speak Spanish or Spanglish fluently and you want to help others who are trying to get there. You may not know what words are esdrujulas but you can usually pronounce them correctly. You can help beginner and intermediate participants go through their scripts. Teacher - You're a Spanish teacher or tutor who speaks Spanish and can explain the finer points of Spanish grammar. You can help advanced participants get their Spanish to mentor level.
