But for the first time in most of our adult lives we are also sliding into economic recession. There are tangible things the government can do to make the lives of everyone better - but they aren't. They are continuing to ignore us and let big business make record-breaking profits in a time of soaring pollution and stagnating wages. Inflation is at an all-time high and the cost of living is skyrocketing. Labor is peddling a ‘tough times’ narrative while still pushing through their stage 3 tax cuts that will cost everyday Australians a whopping $254 billion over the next decade. In a time when we can’t afford to pay our rent, put food on the table or afford to study - the Labor party is leaving young people behind. Ahead of the May budget - we are calling for a Climate Jobs Guarantee. We need an expansive transformative jobs program that will guarantee well-paid, good, unionised jobs for all that want them. After winning government on a mandate of climate action, we are still seeing destructive coal and gas projects being approved & going ahead. We need to hold Labor’s feet to the fire, to address structural inequality & stagnating wages and to implement a Climate Jobs Guarantee.
