Join us on Nov. 23rd at 2 pm for "Banned Book Bingo" at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Squirrel Hill, for an in-person, family-friendly community event hosted by Jews for a Secular Democracy’s Jewish Women and Religious Freedom in Pittsburgh Project. This program is sponsored by the Jewish Women’s Foundation of Greater Pittsburgh, underwritten, in part, by Trustee Nancy Weissman, in memory of her beloved mother-in-law, Trustee Jackie Wechsler. Instead of numbers, we’ll be calling out the titles of banned or challenged books—stories that have been censored because of their ideas, their authors, or the communities they represent. We’ll explore how censorship violates religious freedom and the separation of church and state, and why these book bans particularly impact women and children, who rely on libraries and schools for access to accurate information, diverse stories, and safe spaces to learn.
