Close Suncor Action - Demand Clean Air in Denver

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

The Suncor Energy oil refinery, near Sand Creek and the South Platte River in Commerce City just North of Denver, continues poisoning communities and contributing significantly to the climate crisis and F-grade air quality in the Denver Metro Area. It spews toxic pollution over the 80% Latinx, working-class neighborhoods nearby, harming people’s health and the environment. Suncor has repeatedly violated its air pollution permits, releasing hundreds of tons of smog-forming chemicals each year, including 14.1 tons of hydrogen cyanide and 800,000 tons of toxic air pollutants. Instead of remedying its effects, Suncor has fought reporting requirements and a modification of its permits to refine dirtier tar sands oil, releasing more toxins. The emissions from the Suncor refinery have contributed to the area being the most polluted zip code in the country and led to a rash of health problems for people living in North Denver and throughout Colorado. Join us on the evening of September 26, 2019 as we take our demand to Suncor and ask for closure of the refinery and the enactment of a Green New Deal, including provisions for a just transition of Suncor’s workers.
