Claire is a union organizer who has seen democracy work up close. She was a member of the UAW reform caucus, Unite All Workers for Democracy (UAWD), which won crucial reforms to make the UAW more democratic. Passing the “one member, one vote” reform led to leaders who better represented the union membership — and under President Shawn Fain, the union has become a progressive powerhouse. Getting democratic socialists like Claire elected will be crucial for winning proportional representation to end gerrymandering and reining in the outsized influence of PAC money in our elections. Their campaigns are actively working with our group to fix the undemocratic system in the United States. But none of that matters if they don’t win their elections!
