How can political organising on the left become more accessible to and inclusive of disabled people? In this session we will explore what equal access to participation in mainstream political activity would look like for disabled people and what can be achieved within the constraints of the system we live under. Under lockdown conditions, remote forms of organising provided unprecedented levels of inclusion to some disabled people while others were totally excluded. We will look at how inclusion gains made during the pandemic can be retained and what more is needed. With: Ellen Clifford A disabled activist on the Steering Group for Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) and author of The War on Disabled People: Capitalism, Welfare and the Making of a Human Catastrophe published by Zed Books in June 2020 Ellen Morrison A Disabled People Against Cuts activist, Chair of Unite’s London & Eastern Young members’ Committee and recently elected as the disabled people's representative on the Labour Party NEC. Raymond Johnson A self advocate fighting for the rights of people with learning difficulties for the last 25 years. Also known for appearances on “The Undateables”. Barry McDonald Peer development worker at Bromley Experts by Experience. Catherine Hale Director of the Chronic Illness Inclusion Project. Kerena Marchant Former Labour PPC for Basingstoke. She is a film maker, writer and Deaf/Disability activist. Arjun Harrison-Mann and Benjamin Redgrove A London based duo, using art, design and activism to explore notions of Radical Accessibility in relation to Disability Rights in the UK.
