East Oakland is also a major transportation corridor with goods moving via ship, rail, congested freeways, and truck routes in close proximity to people’s homes. In partnership with UC Berkeley and the Bay Area Air District, we have been working with East Oakland community members to build a network of air quality monitors and air filters at homes, schools, and other community centers. The Bay Area Air District will also be deploying a specialized van in East Oakland to monitor pollutants and conduct studies.
