This is part one of a four part reading group on environmental racism in DC. In this first discussion, our readings will focus on the principles of energy democracy, Pepco's legacy of pollution, and a high level overview of the environmental issues facing DC residents. After we lay the groundwork in this first session, parts 2-4 will take a closer look at how Pepco's energy infrastructure has disproportionately harmed Black and Brown residents and how energy democracy may offer a path to a just transition here in DC. Readings will be provided before the group meets.
