This walking tour, led by House the Future member Katelin Penner, will look at various housing models New York City experimented with during the 20th century, from public housing, to limited equity co-operatives, to Mitchell Lama developments. We'll consider how these models, most of which remove market pressures from housing, could be adapted to meet the city's current housing needs, and talk about the growing movement for social housing in New York, such as DSA's House the Future Campaign! Come join us to get involved with social housing work, learn about its history, and explore New York City on a beautiful spring day. This walk will take place on the Lower East Side. We'll meet on the corner of East Broadway and Clinton St on the Lower East Side, and finish up around 2 hours later at Ost Cafe at 511 Grand Street about 2 hours later.
