This craft workshop provides a safe and creative space for people to gather, discuss and make on the topic of 'How to make our communities safer for all.' It is designed to be accessible to everyone, including people who have never made a zine or never been introduced to the philosophy of abolition. Using gentle prompts such as, ‘Instead of police, what would make you feel safer on the streets?’, ‘How would you repurpose a facial recognition surveillance van for the community?’ – participants are encouraged to consider collective safety beyond the logic of policing and surveillance. The act of physically gathering and making with our hands helps us to somatically experience what safety and community might feel like – at the end of the workshop, participants have a physical manifestation of what a liberated world could look like.
