Into the Weeds is a 2022 documentary film that follows the story of Dewayne ‘Lee’ Johnson and his battle for justice against the multinational agrochemical corporation Monsanto, whose terminal cancer was allegedly caused by the herbicide product roundup. Blending testimonials, interviews and trial footage, the film follows this groundbreaking lawsuit while also reflecting to see the systematic impact of glyphosate-based herbicides on human health, food systems and the biodiversity of our planet. Glyphosate is the most commonly used herbicide globally, and it is highly effective. However, it is also categorized as 'probably carcinogenic to humans' by the IARC and has negative effects on soil microbes and pollinators. This is why BFoE's campaign, Save our Soil, is calling for the ceased usage of Glyphosate in Birmingham's green spaces. We'd love to have you at our screening of Into The Weeds.
