Temperate Rainforest Exploration: Walk and Workshop🌳🚶‍♂️

	<thumbnail_url>https://can2-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/groups/default_facebook_images/000/116/448/original/GP3squarergb.png?1591459855</thumbnail_url>

You've heard about tropical rainforests, but what about temperate rainforests?! 🤔🌳 If you love trees and wet weather (we live in England, you've got no choice there!) then come along to learn all about and explore these amazing local ecosystems, including a visit to some ancient woodland that is the closest place to a temperate rainforest locally we've found so far! The day will start with an education session in Ravelin Park, where we'll learn more about this rare ecosystem and habitat, and the plants that flourish there. This session is open to all, even if you can’t join us on the walk. From there, we'll jump into cars and head up to the woodland - around a 30min drive. There are car-share spots available, but if anyone is happy to drive we’d be very grateful for some extra volunteers! Once there, we'll walk for about 1-1.5 hrs checking out the woods and will see what rainforest signs we can spot, and also have a look at how the area can harbour rainforest life so far away from where it is more abundantly found!🪲🌲 Important accessibility info: 🍎Food and drink: Please bring any snacks, and water that you will need throughout the early afternoon. As the event is happening over lunch time, we suggest bringing a packed lunch as there will be plenty of time on the drive and walk to stop and eat. 🚶‍♂️Accessibility: Unfortunately the walking element of the event is not accessible, it will involve mud, steep hills, narrow tracks, and climbing over fallen trees. Please make a decision about your own mobility before joining this session and ensure you have appropriate footwear. That said, you don’t need to be a seasoned hiker and we won't be in a rush so will go at a pace everyone is comfortable with. Please take note of the weather, and bring a water bottle, sun cream, or a raincoat as appropriate! Important event details: When: Saturday 11th July 11:00 Until around 12:00 for the Education Session. 12:00 We will head out to the rainforest. For those who attend the walk, we will aim to be back in Portsmouth by around 14:30 – 15:00 Where (Education Session): Meet at the amphitheatre in Ravelin Park Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/nGZrwmbHkUxSvHQR6 What3Words: ///brush.glue.nurse https://w3w.co/brush.glue.nurse Easily accessible by bus: 3 & 23 (Kings Road Junction), and 700 (Cambridge Junction), and plenty of bike stands nearby at Ravelin Sports Centre. Where (the walk): We’ll be driving here from the education session, and car share spots are available. We’ll drive up to Buriton, around a half-hour drive. More details on the walk are below, but here’s the route so you know exactly where we’ll be heading: https://explore.osmaps.com/route/32127766/buriton-rainforest?lat=50.97321&lon=-0.95284&zoom=15.7247&overlays=os-obstacles-layer&style=TopoAuto&type=2d
