This is not only a human rights crisis, it’s also a threat to the safety of Global North residents and the entire global economy. The Delta Variant that has led to an 80% increase in deaths in Africa and causing devastating surges in the Global North that are threatening recovery, is just the first of many examples. Unfortunately as the Delta Variant surges and right wing counter protests about mask mandates pick up, our narratives about the global root causes of the problem have been largely absent from media coverage and from policy makers’ discussion of solutions. We can change popular discourse by reaching many more people with our narrative. In addition to high profile direct actions and press conferences, we can highlight stories and experiences of everyday people in local outlets around the country. These are effective outlets to reach people where they’re at around issues of immediate importance to their lives. We can use the hook of the Delta Variant surge and general anxiety about “the return” of the pandemic to place letters to the editor. From September 20-October 20th, our goal is to place 100 letters in small papers, newsletters, listservs around the country in outlets big and small. AND WE NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN.
