Meet with Senator Laird

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

Senator John Laird will join us on Tuesday, July 28 at 11:00 am PT on Zoom. Senator John Laird was re-elected to the State Senate on November 5, 2024 to represent Senate District 17. The district includes Santa Cruz, San Benito and Monterey Counties in their entirety, as well as the majority of San Luis Obispo County. Prior to his Senate service, Laird taught environmental policy at the University of California Santa Cruz and served as Secretary of the California Natural Resources Agency under Governor Jerry Brown from January 5, 2011, until January 7, 2019. Laird also served as a member of the State Integrated Waste Management Board from 2008 to 2009. In the State Senate, Laird chairs and serves on a broad array of committees, including the Budget and Fiscal Review Committee, the Joint Legislative Budget Committee, and the Select Committee on Older LGBTQ+ Californians. During his first term in the Senate, Laird had 59 bills signed into law relating to environmental protection, sea level rise, increased access to healthcare, educational opportunity, sustainable agriculture, and electoral reform. We plan to discuss prospects for AB 1790 (Connolly) the Water’s Edge election bill, budget ideas for a state bank (since AB 2243 by Haney was held in Asm Appropriations) which could be used to gain funds for climate related projects and more. Please use this form to sign up to join this interesting meeting. We'll convene on the same Zoom link at 10:30am, a half hour before the meeting, to plan and agree on priorities for our part of the conversation. If you can't make the 10:30 planning meeting, please join at 11:00 to listen to the conversation.
