<title>MMTUK Launch Event: A Job Guarantee for Britain</title>

<description>The UK loses billions every year through unemployment and underemployment. Exposed to precarious work, stagnant wages, and collapsing public services, millions of people are told there is simply no alternative. There is. MMTUK is launching with a direct challenge to that story. On 25th February, we publish our first policy paper, &quot;A Job Guarantee for the UK,&quot; and open a serious conversation about what genuine full employment would look like in practice. Patricia Pino presents the paper&#x27;s core proposal: a centrally funded, locally administered Job Guarantee that would offer a living-wage job to anyone ready and willing to work. The paper sets out how such a programme could be designed for UK conditions, how it would function as an automatic stabiliser against both unemployment and inflation, and what it would mean for public services, the care economy, and the transition to net zero. Professor Bill Mitchell, co-founder of Modern Monetary Theory and one of the architects of the Job Guarantee concept, delivers the keynote address. Professor Mitchell brings three decades of international research on employment guarantees and will situate the UK proposal within the global evidence base. The evening closes with audience Q&amp;amp;A for our speakers. On the night: - The full Job Guarantee paper will be available in print (limited copies) and published on mmtuk.org - The event will be professionally recorded and published online afterwards - Printed copies of the paper will be available to take away This event is for anyone who works on employment, poverty, public services, or economic policy and wants evidence-based alternatives to austerity.
