Neighborhood Canvassing Training (3/3/26)

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

Are you interested in neighborhood canvassing and/or local organization to rally against ICE? This training will cover the goals of hyperlocal organization for showing up for immigrant neighbors and how canvassing ties into that. We will review all canvassing materials to distribute to neighbors and businesses in your neighborhood and role-play different canvassing interactions. More information on the importance of local organization in the fight against ICE, what canvassing entails, and the time commitment and expectations for canvassing roles are below. Why is this important? Organizing locally will help us cover more ground more quickly for this canvassing initiative. That means educating more people and businesses on their rights and getting whistles to more people. It also encourages us to know our neighbors and have foundational organization in case ICE activity in our area escalates. This will allow us to more quickly provide mutual aid, set up patrols, and respond to ICE activity to document. Lead Organizers: Attend training on canvassing procedures - 30 minutes Pick up materials for canvassing - up to 1 hour (dependent on location) Plan regular canvasses (biweekly or monthly is recommended) - 1 hour to prep materials, 2-3 hours per canvassing effort Canvassers: Attend regular canvasses, frequency determined by the lead in the area- 2-3 hours per canvassing effort What is KYR (Know Your Rights) Canvassing? DSA along with other activism groups and concerned citizens have been canvassing around Portland to: Explain the rights of businesses if ICE were to enter their establishment Provide signage stating “ICE Not Welcome Here” and to delineate Employees Only spaces to businesses Explain the rights of workers/neighbors if ICE approaches them or their home by distributing Know Your Rights packets Distribute whistle kits Educate folks about PIRC and the rapid response network PIRC is building
