The lives of many people have been stripped of a second chance and they are expected to die in prison. We cannot forget that current and formerly incarcerated people are human beings, and we all make mistakes. Serving life without parole is a heinous punishment and we need your help to push for change within the system. One way that we can create a transformative and restorative criminal justice system for lifers is through second chance legislation. Second chance legislation is a way to bring loved ones home from prison who have been impacted by the carceral system and reduce the rates of death by incarceration (DBI). The impact of past convictions on individuals can be far-reaching, hindering their reintegration into society and perpetuating a cycle of recidivism. To address these challenges and the harm it has caused to communities, second chance legislation in PA has emerged as a crucial tool for granting opportunities as well as restoring dignity and a sense of community.
