Bring Canadian and American flags and homemade signs expressing Americans' friendly feelings for our neighbors to the north. Why? The United States and Canada have a long history of friendship, trade, cooperation, and trust. The two countries have forged military alliances. Canada is the United States’ largest trading partner. Close ties exist between the U.S. and Canada in the arts and entertainment, as well as sports. Yet the bonds between the two countries have become needlessly strained as President Donald Trump has imposed punitive tariffs on Canadian goods and insultingly called for Canada to lose its independence and become America’s 51st state.
