Let's get ready to win the Fair Amendment on the ballot next year! You might remember the Fair Share Amendment from the signature collection you did back in 2015, the lobbying of your legislators you did for subsequent constitutional conventions, or the gear-up for a ballot fight back in 2018. Unfortunately, the corporate lobby was able to kick the Fair Share Amendment off the ballot with a questionable lawsuit. But we're back -- and we're ready to win it. But to do that, we'll need activists like you. We know that millions of dollars will be spent by the corporate lobby again in opposition to the Fair Share Amendment. But organized people can beat organized money. Learn how to play your part in the fight! ****** Quick Refresher on Fair Share: The Fair Share Amendment is a proposal to amend the Massachusetts Constitution, creating an additional tax of 4% on income above $1 million. The new revenue, approximately $2 billion a year, would be spent on quality public education and affordable public colleges and universities, and for the repair and maintenance of roads, bridges and public transportation. For years, the highest-income households in Massachusetts – those in the top 1 percent – have paid a smaller share of their income in state and local taxes than any other income group. And while countless people and small businesses suffered during the COVID-19 crisis, wealthy executives and investors saw their incomes skyrocket. The 19 billionaires in Massachusetts saw their wealth increase by a total of $17 billion during the first three months of the COVID-19 pandemic alone. It's time for them to pay their fair share so that we can deliver on the promise of shared prosperity for all.
