Our theme this season is "Organizing for Power." In our first session, we will introduce the importance of organizing as explicit socialists, and ask attendees to do a pre-reading of Jodi Dean's essay, From Allies to Comrades. We will also have a speaker, Philip Locker, who has extensive organizing experience with the "15 Now" campaign, and as the Political Director of Kshama Sawant's 2013 and 2015 campaigns for City Council in Seattle. This session will serve as an introduction to the rest of our term's syllabus, which will have three modules specifically focused on organizing around 1) electoral campaigns, 2) the workplace, and 3) community/issue based campaigns.
