Join Marika Dias (movement lawyer with RTC-NYC coalition), Samuel Stein (author of Capital City), and Melissa Marichal (staff attorney at Connecticut Fair Housing Center) for a discussion of the political economy of housing. They'll cover the history of private property and its connections to colonialism, the commodification of housing and the economics of rent, cycles of gentrification, the interrelationship between racism and housing, and the role of tenants’ right to counsel in the movement to build tenant power. Discussion will be via zoom, with simultaneous interpretation in Spanish and Arabic. A zoom link will be sent out closer to the event. Sponsored by the Housing Justice Project of Central CT DSA, the Connecticut Right to Counsel Coalition, and the Connecticut Fair Housing Center.
