It's been over a year since Governor Murphy intervened in PVSC's plan to push ahead with a plan to build and operate a new gas power plant in Newark. And despite our state's commitments to environmental justice and renewable energy, it's clear that PVSC is still seeking to build this gas plant. But opposition is growing, in the past two months twenty-three members of the NJ legislature and Mayor Barak of Newark sent letters to Gov. Murphy urging him to direct PVSC to redesign the project without a polluting gas plant, and they were joined by the Essex County Commissioners and the Newark City Council who both unanimously passed resolutions opposing the project. We must continue to call on PVSC to reject any project that involves building what would be the fourth fracked gas power plant in the Ironbound and instead develop a truly resilient renewable energy-based project alternative.
