Israel’s relentless bombing and siege has already killed almost 30,000 Palestinians, among them over 12,000 children, injuring up to 70,000 more. At least 17,000 children have been orphaned or separated from their parents. The trauma, loss and fear will scar families for generations. Survivors are starving to death, with reports of people forced to eat grass and grind cattle feed for flour. Under Israel’s blockade, Gaza’s health system has practically collapsed for lack of fuel, electricity, and medicine. Now, a looming ground assault on Rafah, where millions of exhausted, hungry, heartbroken, displaced people are sheltering, risks mass ethnic cleansing across the border to Egypt. The sheer scale of this suffering can only be registered in numbers. But these people are not numbers. Each is an individual who means everything to somebody. In the face of all this, silence is not an option. We call on all Jews and friends in the UK to join us in taking a stand against the shameful complicity of our government and communal institutions in this unrelenting horror. Hamas’ massacres and hostage-taking can never justify the perpetration of such atrocities. An immediate ceasefire, a hostage deal, and an end to the siege on Gaza remain our most urgent demands.
