Reston Golf Course Development – Community Meetup & Testimony Prep

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

Join YIMBYs of Nova for an evening dedicated to the future of the Reston Golf Course property. This 80+ acre site sits directly adjacent to the Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station, one of the rare transit-connected locations in Fairfax County. Yet for years, this prime, publicly-owned land has remained an underutilized golf course while our region faces a crushing housing shortage. This project has a history: First iteration: Rejected. Second iteration: Approved by the Planning Commission, but vetoed by Hunter Mill District Supervisor Walter Alcorn during the SSPA process last year. The supervisor chose to side with a wealthy, well-organized minority over the broader community's need for housing. Third iteration: Now before us again – and we can't afford to let this opportunity slip away. It's time to prioritize metro-accessible housing over golf courses. Across our region, we see far too many projects next to Metro stations that fail to deliver transit-oriented development. Land is being used for uses that don't create ridership, don't serve residents, and don't address our housing crisis. This site represents the exact opposite: a chance to build homes where people can live, work, and commute without being car-dependent. This isn't just about one project. It's about what kind of county we want to be. We have to reject the elitism that says a golf course is more valuable than homes for teachers, nurses, young families, and seniors. We have to make Fairfax County a place for everyone. What to expect: Short presentation on the proposed project Open Q&A with the development team Talking points and guidance for submitting written and oral testimony for the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors meetings Help registering to testify and recording video testimonies for the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors meetings Whether you're a long-time Reston resident, a future neighbor, or just someone who cares about more housing in our region, your voice matters. Let's work together to show Fairfax County that we support thoughtful, transit-oriented development.
