The proposal for Ecodesign rules for Smartphones & Tablets is expected to be published by the EU Commission any time soon. This is an extremely important file as it will include repair-related provisions and set the tone for other product categories’ ecodesign requirements. It will also be the first opportunity to discuss a repair score index at EU level. At the moment it looks like spare part prices won’t be considered as criteria within the EU repair score index. This is not acceptable, as price is an essential factor in consumers’ decision on whether or not to repair their devices! Furthermore, in the context of the ongoing EU Battery Regulation trilogues, we keep pushing for user-removability and replaceability of batteries.
