Advisory Neighborhood Commissions or ANCs were established to bring the government closer to DC residents and to bring residents closer to the government. An ANC is a non-partisan, neighborhood body made up of locally elected representatives called Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners. ANCs are the official voice in advising District government on issues that affect their neighborhood. ANCs initiate recommendations for improving city services, conduct neighborhood improvement projects, and monitor resident complaints. District agencies are required to give the ANC's recommendations "great weight." Because of the key role ANC's play in local government, Birth-To-Three Coalition is hosting an ANC Advocacy training. During the training our organizing team will provide an overview of ANCs, help participants identify their ANC, and cover key issues participants should convey during their ANC meetings. The training also covers a "Birth-To-Three 101" presentation, an explanation as to why working class families deserve quality and affordable early childhood education, and an overview of how we tripled the Mayor's investment for Birth-To-Three for All Act of 2018. The goal of the training is to help participants become active members in their ANCs and advocate for local solutions to improve the health, education, and well being for working class families. Can't make it on July 31st? If you are interested in learning more about ANCs, DC WFP or hosting a training session in your neighborhood please email: mgreen@workingfamilies.org Help build the DC political party that is fighting for the many, not the few! RSVP: Register for an upcoming meeting at our Working Families office. Become a member: Text Member to " 738674" to receive information on becoming a member.
