The Climate Crisis, Made in London?

The climate crisis is significantly made in London: from the epicentre of Britain’s violent colonial past to its modern-day housing of oil giants like Shell and BP and the banks that fund their fossil fuel expansion. And if these harms are born here, then so too must be our resistance. As communities around the world suffer the effects of a crisis made in these London boardrooms, join Fossil Free London for an online discussion to learn more about our city's role in the climate crisis, and how our activism holds these corporate polluters to account. We’ll also hear more from the global communities we’re working with who are seeking to hold Big Oil responsible in the courts here in London. We’ll be discussing two live cases against Shell.. The Odette Case - Over 100 Filipinos claim that Shell knew that fossil fuels could cause dangerous climate breakdown and are now suing them for compensation for the homes, livelihoods, and lives lost due to Super Typhoon Odette. Niger Delta cases - The Bodo, Ogale and Bille communities are also seeking damages from Shell due to the devastation its oily business has caused to their water, lands and livelihoods. … and our work fighting for climate justice. Fossil Free London is a climate justice organisation dedicated to disrupting the fossil fuel industry here in our city. Through direct action, strategic campaigning, and movement building, we challenge the social licence of elites and corporate polluters. We advocate for a rapid and just transition towards a sustainable and equitable society. Expect: A one hour, online discussion with international activists and campaigners. Engaging and accessible language, as we delve into real world climate justice issues/ Further reading: https://www.edie.net/why-disruptive-climate-activism-still-matters/ https://www.odettecase.org/about https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cdrp8v7407ro
