The complaint alleges that TxDOT has intentionally engaged in discrimination through its awareness of I-35’s racist past and inequitable impacts and its unwillingness to address those impacts, instead doubling down on them through a massive highway expansion. The original complaint was submitted on January 26, 2024 to to US Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and other federal officials and was signed by AURA, The Austin Justice Coalition, East Town Lake Citizens Neighborhood Association,PODER, Rethink35, Save Our Springs and East Austin resident Bertha Rendon Delgado.
