Defend Democracy Coalition Pledge

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

The Portland-based Defend Democracy Coalition is organizing nonviolent mass mobilizations in the event that our rights to a fair and honest election are infringed upon. From voter disenfranchisement to vigilantes at polling places, not counting every vote and stacked courts making illegitimate election decisions, these are threats to our freedom and constitute a coup. These infringements on our basic rights touch every single one of us, yet disproportionately affect the lives of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. The struggle for democracy will not be complete until the lives, rights, and voices of those most threatened are uplifted and protected. We will unite to uphold our democracy and the very foundations of our right to vote. We demand a free, fair and safe election, and will nonviolently mobilize in mass numbers to communicate that the people united will never be defeated. Sign our pledge, join the movement. === ”The vote is precious. It is almost sacred. Is is the most powerful non-violent tool we have in a democratic society and we’ve got to use it” - John Lewis === Our pledge is: 1. We will vote. 2. We will refuse to accept election results until all the votes are counted. 3. We will nonviolently take to the streets if a coup is attempted. 4. If we need to, we will shut down “business as usual” to protect the integrity of the democratic process.
