Tell HHS Not to Change Title X

Title X funds are essential for young people across the country who need reproductive care and family planning services. Right now, the Trump administration is proposing to change this program to an ideological force that will prevent young people from accessing contraception, abortion care and their basic right to privacy. We need HHS to get as many comments as possible opposing this rule change. We will insert your comments into the template below and then submit it to HHS. Please do not add any self-identifying information that you do not want made public. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Attn: Office of Population Affairs, Department of Health and Human Services I am writing with great concern over the proposed changes to the Title X program. Since 1970, Title X has been successful in providing low-income individuals, including young people, high-quality care and access to a full range of reproductive health care services. For patients who cannot otherwise afford healthcare, Title X has been vital to accessing preventative care and family planning methods. Recent numbers from the 2016 Title X Family Planning Annual Report show that 39.1% of all Title X clients were under the age of 25. As a young person who [information about yourself here - your identities, age, location, school, major, affiliation, etc.], I am especially worried about the effects these proposed changes will have on young people throughout the country. I oppose these changes for the following reasons: Young people deserve confidential health services and to have their privacy respected. The proposed changes to Title X would force healthcare providers to emphasize “family participation” in private healthcare decisions and even go so far as mandating confidential information about young people’s sexual partners be documented. Young people deserve all information needed to make family planning decisions. Under the proposed changes, providers are not required to provide patients with every family planning method (including medically and FDA-approved contraception) meaning that simply promoting abstinence or fertility awareness - and not a full range of information - as a form of family planning would satisfy the new requirements. Young people deserve to have their right to abortion care respected. Under the proposed changes, providers are unable to offer information about abortion care unless explicitly asked and even then can omit information about where and how a patient can access care. This makes it significantly more difficult for providers to give young people a range of reproductive health services. [A personal story about important sexual health information being withheld from you, facing barriers to abortion information or care, or feeling that your privacy was not respected] The proposed changes to Title X are harmful to millions of people, but young people like me, in particular, may experience the greatest harm. These changes trample on my right to privacy, impedes my access to abortion, and prevents young people like me from getting full and accurate information about my reproductive health. Please do not implement these changes and keep the Title X program as is. Thank you, [Your Name] [City, State]
