However, no matter who we've voted into power, our government has consistently failed to act to avert the greatest threat to all our lives - climate breakdown. After over 30 years of public pressure from everyone from scientists to school children, the government has revealed itself to be a private members' club for a close circle of friends in politics, fossil-fuelled business and the media, incapable of delivering the action we need. We have flogged this dead horse for long enough. We have to democratise to decarbonise. Only after a full democratic renewal of how decisions are made in this country can we expect real action on keeping global heating below 1.5C. That’s why we’re demanding a binding Citizens’ Assembly on UK democracy. A Citizens’ Assembly will act like a Trojan horse for people, bringing together individuals from all walks of life to discuss and develop a vision for how to share collective power beyond Westminster.
