Fix Our Long Service Leave!

	<thumbnail_url>https://can2-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/share_options/facebook_images/000/204/296/original/8373A78D-0C69-4975-8DA7-CC5D9DFB0F0F.png</thumbnail_url>

The way that the Commonwealth Bank calculates Long Service Leave for Part Time employees is broken. There are two main areas of concern for the Finance Sector Union: 1. In some cases where people have reduced their weekly hours, (or when CBA reduces them!) the long service leave balances are going backwards – even into the negative! This is not how Long Service Leave was intended to function. The hours you’re working today shouldn’t have any affect on the Long Service Leave you’ve already built up, and once you've taken your leave, your balance can't fall below zero! 2. If a part time employee works 50% of an equivalent full time week, then their Long Service Leave should accrue at 50% of the full time rate as well. But once an adjustment is made to the amount of LSL accruing, it should not be adjusted again. CBA pro-rata LSL at both the point of accrual and at the point of “spending” the leave. This means that employees with part time service cannot be sure that their LSL as paid by CBA is their rightful amount. The cause is complicated, but the effect is very simple: loyal staff are being ripped off. The FSU have been raising this issue with CBA for many years. It's not fair and it doesn’t need to be this way. The nation’s largest financial institution should be able to fairly administer the entitlements of loyal staff. How do I know if I'm affected? If you work part time, or have worked part time at any stage, you're at risk of having your entitlement reduced. What can we do about it? The union that represents bank workers - the Finance Sector Union, is working hard on this matter. There are a number of options available to us, but first we want to reach out to workers at CBA who are experiencing this issue, so that they can be included in the next steps. CBA have had this issue in the “too hard” basket for many years, together we can make sure that this is too hard to ignore. The first steps: Join the FSU if you’re not already a member! If you think you might be affected by this, fill out this form for a more detailed assessment. Forward this page to anyone you know who works at CBA.
