The primary cause of global heating is fossil fuels. The fossil fuel industry has colluded for decades to systematically mislead the public and to block climate action at all levels of government. Research shows a correlation between fossil fuel industry funding and biased research reporting (Almond, Du & Papp, 2022). Further, there is extensive evidence that the fossil fuel industry deliberately distorted information and deceived the public about the truth of their complicity in climate change impacts (e.g. Banerjee, Song & Hasemyer, 2015). In the context of these facts, it is imperative that scientists reject further funding from the fossil fuel industry.
