Make Church Road safe: time for a 20mph speed limit

	<thumbnail_url>https://can2-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/forms/photos/000/780/348/normal/speeding_image_.JPG</thumbnail_url>

Dear Croydon Council and Bromley Council, Church Road is a street where families live, children walk, and older people cross every day. When drivers speed, the risk of serious injury or death increases. A person hit at 30 mph is far more likely to be seriously hurt than at 20 mph [1]. Slower speeds save lives [1]. There have already been accidents and near-misses. Jordaine, who launched this campaign, was hit while crossing at the zebra crossing on Church Road around 9am in the morning. If someone can be hit in daylight on a well-marked crossing, it shows the road is not safe. We, the undersigned, are asking for a 20 mph limit to be implemented. This could be supported, if necessary and if residents wish, by installing a speed camera and/or speed bumps. This is about: Protecting children walking to and from home and school Reducing noise pollution Protecting older and vulnerable residents Preventing serious injuries Reducing air pollution Making the community feel safe again We must not wait for a tragedy before taking action. This is why we are calling on you, Croydon and Bromley Councils, to come together and take action. People's lives are at risk. [1] Brake, the road safety charity. Speed and injury.
